Our Mission:
(abbreviated) To alleviate the suffering of unwanted cats and dogs by a program of neutering. We do not turn away from our gate any animals in need, we especially take care of animals who have been abandoned and clearly need urgent medical attention. We do not put to sleep any animal that can be saved only if there is no medical alternative or the animal shows clear, unequiocal signs of aggression, and then again only on veterinary advice. |
| Tess, arrived with a very bad virus and had to be hospitalized for 7 days, now doing great! | Go to page 2 for our animal case studies and why we do what we do! go> |
Who We Are
SOS Animals (Spay Our Strays) was founded in 1997 by Kim Halliwell and Tony
Byford (pictured right).
The rescue centre came into being by the joint purchase (Kim & Tony) of
some 20,000 square metres of rustic land at the back of a little spanish fishing
village called La Cala de Mijas on the southern coast (Costa del Sol) in Spain.
Originally designed to cater for around 50 dogs and 15 cats. Ten years on
(as you can see from our centre stats in the left panel) it is home to approx
250 animals.
Part of our mission is to re-home and the majority of homes are found for
dogs in northern Europe, specifically Sweden. We have been finding homes for
dogs in Sweden since October 1997 and for the past two years SOS Sweden as
a registered charity came into being. This sister organization is invaluable
to our rescue work.
